Urban orchard in the city..coming soon.


I saw this very encouraging sign the other day. Seeing the words beneficial insect and companion plant right in the centre of Perth-Northbridge was quite a surprise. It will be interesting to see how it looks when it's done.

Interesting yes, and I wonder if the wider community will take charge and what kind of things they will grow there? At Curtin University the gardens have both plants that are visual and edible in close proximity. In the Czech republic, as a hangover from former communist times, the street trees or trees in the front yards of peoples houses are mostly fruit trees. The only problem is that since the end of communism, with the availability of oranges grown in Florida, and foreign selections freely available, local street free produce has been ignored. The pathways then become mush with pulp of fallen fruit like the mush of old snow.
